This project consisted of removal of an existing traveling tripper belt conveyor system and replacing it with a new plow conveyor system. The existing tripper conveyor, located at the top of the powerhouse, fed coal into six bins via a manually operated traveling tripper. The new system would feed the day bins utilizing an automated plow / conveyor. Rand Construction removed the old conveyor and dust collection system. The new conveyor, automated plows, controls, dust collection, dust suppression, and building modifications were all completed by Rand during a June-July shutdown period.
The work on this project was complicated by limited access to the project area. The only access for removal and installation was located on one end of the building, 80-feet in the air. Rand erected a platform, made an opening in the side of the building, and installed an overhead door to enable materials and equipment to be brought in and out.
